Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Customers rave about the consistency of the food at Four Lanes Fisheries. The freshly cooked fish, often crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, earns praise from seasoned chippy aficionados. Portions don't skimp, particularly with their chips, which many describe as some of the best in Sheffield. The famed 'scraps'—which are bits of crispy batter—add a unique touch that delights newcomers.

The friendly service really makes the experience shine as staff members are known for their patience and willingness to explain menu items. The swagger of reliability and quality keeps regulars returning and draws in first-timers.

Most Disliked

Despite the delicious offerings, waiting in line can be a common hassle, especially during peak hours like game days. Customers often mention frustration with queues stretching outside the shop, although many agree the wait is worth it.

Some patrons have noted variability in the portion sizes, whereas others wish for more vegetarian options, like an expanded veggie pie selection that could cater to a broader audience. While the cash-only policy is appreciated by some, it may catch newcomers off guard, especially during busy periods.

Oxford fan up after the away game at Hillsborough, saw the ratings and decided to check it out after the game. Is a very small place, with queue coming out the door. And now we know why this place is absolutely fantastic 😁 I even got introduced to a new word 'scraps' that's not local language to me 🤣 when I was asked for some I didn't know what it was so I asked the lady, she was very polite and helpful and gave me and my friend some along with a special number two which was sausages chips, weather choice of sauce. It was absolutely wonderful 😍

Came here on a match day from out of town. Fancied a bite to eat and got a portion of chips with curry sauce and mushy peas on the side. It all tasted delicious! The curry sauce in particular was really tasty - quite lemony and a bit sweeter than I'm used to, it really worked for me. I didn't try the fish but everything looked perfectly fried, with just the right amount of batter. Very highly recommended from me. Genuinely one of the best tasting chippies I've been to.

Brilliant Chippie around the back of the Leppings Lane Entrance to Hillsborough. Really tasty food. Excellent value for money. Paid £3.80 for sausage, chips, and curry sauce. Tasted great and kept my full all match. Brother had mini cod, chips, and curry sauce for £5.50. Really good service. Staff friendly and efficient. Large queue outside but didn't have to wait too long. Definitely recommend

10th June The owners have listened and now the Cheese Fritters are excellent. Just the right size, and enough cheese to distinguish it from a potato fritter. The owners have also indicated that they may introduce a veggie pie too. A veggie/vegan burger would also be welcome. As usual the chips were fantastic and (according to my eating companion) the sausages were good too. Welcome to one of the best chippies in Sheffield! ----------------------------- 5th May Just returned. The shop was busy but orders were taken quickly & the environment was friendly. This time the quality of the food had improved. The chips were plentiful, fish was cooked to order, and my cheese & onion rissole was tasty & cooked to perfection. Mani & Priti have certainly listened & learned and going to this chippie is certainly a treat I will look forward to. -------------------------------------- As of April 2023, this chippy is under new management. Happy retirement to Joanne & Jimmy! The new owner has taken time to learn the ropes from the previous staff and Chris is still working there alongside Tina. I was worried that the food wouldn't be as good as Jimmy's, but I found it to be very tasty. The chips were proper potatoes, the sausages were freshly cooked and scraps were given with everything. The Cheese & Onion burger was still available. It was twice the size and not quite as good as Joanne's but getting there. Maybe a little more cheese and a smaller size. Perhaps a vegetable pie could be included in the menu. So welcome to our new chippy owners. You're doing great, and you've certainly listened and learned and I'm sure the Four Lanes will be a great success. ---------------------------- The best chippy in the area. Not a single bad chip to be found - so tasty! The sausages are excellent. The cheese & onion burger for vegetarians is sublime. The staff are amazing - in fact they are wonderful entertainment! Would recommend! I just wish you'd open more often!
